This is the better version of the two. Sometimes a cover brings a song full circle. Pumpkins version brought a lot of questions. This version answers those questions.

I never liked the original version, but their version gives me chills.

Joy's vocal control is absolutely friggin astounding. Her mic technique is flawless. Such passion and energy put into every performance. They never left anything on the stage when they performed. Miss these guys.

I really enjoyed the subtle crescendos and decrescendos around 1:49. They really show mastery of the voice as an instrument.

@DexterousDiggs You didn't make a mistake, decrescendo is just an alternative term for a diminuendo... just as an augmented 4th or a diminished 5th is synonymous with a tritone.  They're the same thing.

Man, I miss these guys and their beautiful voices. This cover is a highlight of this album. Gets me every time.

Great cover in the way that you made it your own, which always should be the case when a band does a cover. Really well done.You have to forgive me though that having experienced the original in my early 20's when it was first released, the original still holds greater weight with me.

7th time in a row just listening to this..... I can't stop. And I absolutely love the Smashing Pumpkins. I usually hate covers, but this one is by far the best I have ever heard. 

I love this song, the Civil Wars are a good band but the original version is way more deep when Billy sings it...

What are you talking about? The media really ran away with the whole tour cancelling thing... To me, the whole statement they made about why they cancelled sounded like Joy underestimated how things would go after having the baby. I thought it sounded like a calculated way of saying "oops, I love my baby more than my singing career right now"... Again, that's how I took it- not like I know for certain... But they ARE writing new music together still and we should have a new album soon...;)

See, I completely disagree. I think the softer melody and more acoustic harmonies enhance the poignancy of the lyrics. The song literally is "disarming" you with its deceptive sweetness, while you can hear the clear longing in their voices. But then again, I'm not a fan of the Smashing Pumpkins, so... grain of salt.

I mean, just like...yeah.

Sometimes I wish people would stop putting their two sense in on these two. No...the original was better, no JP gave joy the avenue, no whoever is better...blah blah. Like seriously listen to the music, these voices and those lyrics they say it all.

They're both talented; Together, they are magical.

Let me clarify My comment about JP giving Joy an avenue before the trolls start in on me.....lolJPW puts out a solo album it would do very well on it's own, Joy has put out solo albums to not a super cozy reception. But together these two equal Perfection. Civil Wars would not have been as good if either JP or Joy had never been there It just would not have worked this well.

I think there is no doubt that both of these people are incredibly talented in there own right. But I do feel JP gave Joy the avenue to perfect what she can do. Together they are unstoppable, Two voices made for each other. Period!
