DUB __ That was his natural hair. He didn't have a perm. He was covering the radiator burn. He had a drug problem, but got clean.

+Dick Roche - I think I found the piano player - I went to a book I have called HARD BOP ACADEMY by Alan Goldsher - the book is about Blakey and the Jazz Messengers and has a lot of pictures - the picture of Walter Davis Jr. (who played briefly with Blakey in the mid 60's) matches the gentleman playing piano with the group

The Jazz Messengers had many different lineups.. the players here are Lee Morgan, trumpet; John Gilmore, tenor sax; John Hicks, piano; Victor Sproles, acoustic double bass; Art Blakey, drums

The tune is actually called Lament for Stacey, which was recorded on S'Make It (1964) with this band + Curtis Fuller.
