    Garbage song

  4. louise ngo bikond

Joyful song. I can definitely have fun dancing on this at a party. There is no doubt this is an early 1900s song. I do like the instrumental ensemble. The synchronicity in time of play of each artist makes it logical. This sounds like simplifed executed Jazz song. It is amazing how the evolment of new instruments has changed how Jazz sounds today. Beautfiful song. Thank you for sharing it on Youtube.

This is real music! Amazing that this will soon be 100 years old. 93 years on and I’m still loving it! Beautiful jazz piece here

  10. Anand Pandya

What great good feeling! Not available today....

  11. Guillaume Fabien

    C'est Joe Sims l'inventeur du "Skat" !!!

  12. Slip Magoo

Heebie is short for Hebrew. Heebie jeebies is an anti semetic slur used against Jewish people implying there is something to be caught from coming in contact with a Jew. This song is racist

  13. ribmeat hamhock

Mr. Armstrong, you are an American treasure!

  14. Myles J

    Honestly this is beautiful.

  15. Jerry Connors

Because of the sensitivities of today, I can't say the name of the poem here (it has in it a word to which some people kneejerk-react negatively), but poem 43 in e.e. cummings' "no thanks" may have been inspired by this song.

  16. Kristina Knauss

    This sounds good

  17. Will R

1926... And it still rocks harder than anything.

  18. Huck Werner

if your lucky find a copy of REALLYTHE BLUES BY MEZZ MEZZROW it explains alot about the early years of jazz and armstrongs early life

  19. dudeya

Such a beautiful tone full with joy and a superb interpretation. Thanks Louie.

  27. Hung Mai

I'm writing a paper on how Louis Armstrong influence jazz and I need to find opposing sources, which in my opinion is hard as heck considering that almost everyone thinks hes the king of jazz.

    Rock loving Loser

    Hung Mai dude sammme

  28. ambermorgan82

He's still the king of jazz

    Mandrew United

    Scatting de 1926

  30. kaczan3

    Scat... you say?

  31. thetopper1

Louis didn't forget the words, he had been scatting for years. Since he was a young teenager in New Orleans.  He'd walk the streets of N.O. with his friends and like the Spasm banks of the time they would carry on with scat and acrobatics and all sorts of entertainment.  This was the first time scat was ever recorded.

    Nayeli Luis

    thetopper1

  32. Brian Kate Johnstone

Hence began scat singing; Pops forgot the words or lost them.

    Ben Nucaro

I did a report on the life of Louis Armstrong, Louis had known how to scat for years on end. In this recording, they were only allowed one take due to budget for black recording studios. Louis was reading the lyrics on a piece of paper, during the recording he dropped the paper and started to scat during the part of the song he didn't remember the words to.

  33. Babette Ory

90 years ago today 12 Nov 1925 my dad Kid Ory, Louis, Johnny St Cyr ,Lil Hardin, Johnny Dodds started the Hot Five Recordings . Miss y'all ♡

    Pierluigi Fantozzi

Also, excuse me if my english is not purely correct!

    Babette Ory

Bueno Sera Pierluigi,si si my email is [email protected]

    Hydrogen Peroxide

    I'm guessing you about 73?

    Alan Bobé Vélez

Your father is one of my favorite musicians of all time. Kid Ory is my preferred New Orleans trombonist. He was a genius too often overlooked by the general public.

    RoastHardy

I read it! They're mentioned in Gran Turismo SPORT's lexicon, so now I know.

  34. Avery Kates

    STEREO Right/Left = 0

  35. Tito Martino

Pianist in the picture AND the recording is LILIANA HARDIN ARMSTRONG, any doubt about.

    Kevin Kevinus

    Tito Martino She gorgeous

  36. vickie oglesby

To Atom...I totally agree with you..thanks for your input.

  37. vickie oglesby

ElComdreja777...have you ever heard of Chick Webb.. dumb nuts? He was just as famous as those you mention..and he had his own band..with singer Ella Fitzgerald.. And he was black..and he was a famous drummer.. Too. And he came along before those other guys. The problem with your revisionist history is that your comments is only true in your own mind..

  38. abyaccf acnl

    heebies JEEBIES dance

  39. Anthony Perez

    Such a fantastic artist!!!

  40. Pete Kernow

PS Only joking! I doubt whether he really dropped the sheet of lyrics.

    Christopher Morano

He said that the music sheet did slip in a video interview

  41. Pete Kernow

I couldn't make out all the words in the vocal.

    byroncjohnston

@Pete Kernow Louis began to scat sing (improvised vocal jazz using nonsensical words) and was among the first to record it, on "Heebie Jeebies" in 1926. The recording was so popular that the group became the most famous jazz band in the United States, even though they had not performed live to any great extent. Young musicians across the country, black or white, were turned on by Armstrong’s new type of jazz.

    James Clements

@Pete Kernow , that's kind of the point of Scat ... which could have as easily been called Jibberish but that didn't sound as cool.

    Pete Kernow

@James Clements Apologies James - I was kiidding. First heard Armstrong on disc and in the flesh in the mid 50s - some introduction to the wonderful world world of jazz! Still enchanted by its variety and beauty.

  42. GameBoi

    sweet sounds to my ears

  43. tenrifesea

I'm writing a paper on how Louis Armstrong changed the foundations of early jazz music so of course I'm listening to this..

    Isaiah Frost

Same, I'm doing a paper on the 1920's!

    tubingtubing1

Lol was just thinking "writing a thesis about jazz has its upsides."

    jeanserge21

Where could we read the paper?

    Michael Chiarito

im writing one right now on the same thing hahahahaha

    Carl Mølhave Jørgensen

I'm writing on the jazz-elements in hiphop :)

  44. axftyh

Doing an essay on him right now!!

  45. vickie oglesby

The grandfather of rap...louis armstrong...with his scar singing..

    Tutorial - For Games

    what the heck? RAP? REALLY?

    Atom

@Tutorial - For Games "scat singing is vocal improvisation with wordless vocables, nonsense syllables or without words at all" aka like what Ninki Maija and Iggy Azzela (or however you spell their names) try to do. There was an interesting Vine video recently showing Iggy pretty much speaking nonsense as she "rapped" so scat singing is the original inspiration behind rap and many rap artists still do scat singing to come up with rhythms for their raps.

    vickie oglesby

    Yeah...

    Jimi Hendrix

vickie oglesby ironically enough most of rap today is not about lyrics as lots rappers improvise melodies with words that are sometimes not audible but go with the song

    Tito Martino

    scar of rap

  46. Lucius Gordon

    Absolutely great

  47. Trish whitney

    Love this song so much!!!!!!

  48. skimdit

Louie starts scatting on this recording because the lyrics dropped off of the stand.and like any great performer he improvised. Scatting is a part of any folk music tradition, any folk music  tradition. In England it was called mouth music.

    Daniel Alvarez Osorio

    Is a myth

    emilianoturazzi

@ Daniel Alvarez Ozorio for sure :) one of those stupid legends on jazz (especially on early jazz)

    dudeya

It's not a myth Louis did mentioned it on some interviews, see "Louis Armstrong in his own words" by Thomas Brothers.

    emilianoturazzi

sorry, but it doesn't mind... jazzmen used to invent legends on theirselves, too. if you were a musician you knew that this sort of things is simply impossible :)

    Cyndi Moring

I just read this story in Mez Mezzrow's Really the Blues.

  49. Conor Begley

King of the bungaloos was the first scat recorded

  50. madworldfan123

It's more like ragtime in my opinion.

  51. Amoriah

by commenting on something I said a year ago and have gotten over since - um no, not really, but thanks for digging it up again.

  52. verbumsat

I have inadvertently dropped the word "use" after the second word.

  53. verbumsat

    Prächtig!

  54. verbumsat

here is the answer for you sweetheart:Because people violent language, like for instance: "bloody argument" & "Just shut up". You may argue that this is "soft violence", nevertheless it dictates the direction and the trend. From that point things tend to escalate.I hope I contributed something to you.Peace.

  55. ProwlxBlurr

You know a lot about Louis Armstrong? Could you tell me what the style of his song 'Heebie Jeebies' is? (Like is it blues, ragtime, or just regular Jazz? Or am I off completely?)

  56. Jan Willem de Kanter

    Prachtig!

  57. JLamb

This song is mainly famous for being the first noted "scat singing" demonstration

  58. linda tinkoff

Thank you, my sister, for telling it...

  59. Nicolas T.

    Armonstrong was black

  60. cuppabaileys

The fact that "netiquette" actually exists says it.

  61. MrAwesomeLuis

who is to say the internet is a place that could be polite, serious, or use grmmar correctly, and who is to say it isn't?

  62. Eduard Dietl

Bull crap, just because it's the internet doesn't mean you can't be polite, serious, and use grammar correctly.

  63. Kilo181

"He had a hit with his playing and scat singing on "Heebie Jeebies" when, according to some legends, the sheet music fell on the floor and he simply started singing nonsense syllables. Armstrong stated in his memoirs that this actually occurred. He also sang out "I done forgot the words" in the middle of recording "I'm A Ding Dong Daddy From Dumas.""

  64. MrAwesomeLuis

    because its the internet

  65. Tony Lombardo

    "Mr." Not "Me."

  66. Tony Lombardo

Me. St. Cyr is killing it on banjo! He is a true master. There means none better, and this track showcases his talent well.

  67. Rich Daigle

I heard it was he dropped the mouth piece out of his horn...hence the scat solo where his trumpet solo would've been...even a pause before his trumpet was back in the outro

  68. SlumPup

The scat part is said to be because Louis dropped the sheet music and had to bend down to get it.

  69. IanHunedoara8

The Heebie Jeebies is about .......Heebie Jeebies

He wasn't supposed to sing they where recording a record when a stack of papers fell over and to keep recording he SCAT the lyrics to fit the music

  82. BlacknesUnforgivable

Ok ok maybe not ALL , but MOSTHappy?

  83. jkpiano

You need to be careful when you make such broad generalisations about music and race, it gives the impression that you are either ignorant or have a chip on your shoulder. There is some truth in what you say BUT you cannot make such statements about ALL musicans because that is simply not true. There is a difference between ripping someone off and being influenced by them. Bill Evans was innovative and unique, Miles Davis certainly thought so!

  84. BlacknesUnforgivable

So are you going to deny , that plenty of white rock musicians ripped off music from Black bluesman of the south without giving credit? What about the white musicians who took advantage of the racist atmosphere of the times and redid black doo wop/rock songs knowing that their version would sell more?Yes , the earliest rock musicians were black.Wasnt really till Elvis hit the scene , that white rock musicians emerged. And Bill Evans was not as innovative in Jazz piano as Earl Hines , Monk ,

  85. jkpiano

You're an idiot. Musicians are influenced by other musicians regardless of race or background. There is nothing wrong with liking one artist's style and being influenced by it. There are plenty of holes in your argument, the earliest rock n' roll musicans weren't just black, there were plenty of white musicians around as well - in the end does it matter whether they were black or white anyway? Would you say that Bill Evans "ripped off" black jazz pianists that came before him? I think not.

  86. BlacknesUnforgivable

If you find some holes in my argument , maybe i'll think differently

  87. hoopjnky

Umm, well. Not exactly. You need to read up on this a little more.

  88. Amoriah

Why does everything on YouTube turn into a bloody argument? Just shut up and listen to the music. It has nothing to do with fighting!

  89. okeydokeyartichokey2

@keeblerbass Thanks for posting this response.

  90. okeydokeyartichokey2

    Thanks for posting this question.

  91. BlacknesUnforgivable

@ElComadreja777 Thats just an excuse. In reality , white americans totally ripped off black american music.Doo Wop started in black urban communities throughout the northeast ...guess who comes along afterwards? Same thing with rock music. Whites steal and repackage - thats it.

  92. BlacknesUnforgivable

@ElComadreja777 The companies WERE in it for the money. Many of them didnt think that the whites of the time would by music from blacks. This is why publishing companies like tin pan alley and the brill building initially barred blacks or didnt include a picture of the black composer on the sheet music.

  93. BlacknesUnforgivable

@ElComadreja777 The only bullshit thats being spout is coming from you LOL!

  94. BlacknesUnforgivable

@ElComadreja777 Jimi hendrix is considered to be the best guitar player everWest Montgomery ,and a whole host of other blues musicians (many undiscovered) absolutely shit on these white guitarist.Hell the majority of white rock guitarist will tell list the BLACK guitarist who initially influenced them and their stylesDrummers? Try chick webb , Ed thigpen,William Randolph, etc

  95. BlacknesUnforgivable

@ElComadreja777 "Crime rate": were already astronomically high in Europe...you people wernt civilized. Read what ceaser said about the germanic tribes

  96. BlacknesUnforgivable

@ElComadreja777 Django was gypsy.Paganini? The only classical musicians i like are the french impressionist...

  97. BlacknesUnforgivable

@ElComadreja777 No , whites have been slaughtering eachother for millenia.Do we really have to go through the long lists of wars and genocide throughout Europe's history? You people were hardly living in a utopian society.....in today's standards lol
